This Week / Next Year at UCM

Here’s what’s coming up at UCM:
Money and applications for the Guatemala trip are due tomorrow (monday Dec 8th). The deposit is $400. if you pay with cash, be sure to hand your money directly to Guinevere. She’ll be around tomorrow until 2:30. Applicants should look for upcoming trip emails soon. The first trip meeting will be Sunday, January 11 at 4:30. Any questions, see Collin, Kyle, or Amanda.
Today was the last UCM of the quarter. We’ll be resuming dinner and worship the first Sunday after the first full week of classes. Since we’d all love to see you before then, there will be a social event the Tuesday of the first week of classes at 7:00 P.M. which may involve Apples-to-Apples.
In related new, Julie gave birth to Brendan Windsor Mitchell early Thursday morning! Both mother and son are doing great.

Weekly Updates (10/19)

Here’s what’s going on this week at UCM:
Monday is our weekly discussion group. We’ll be talking about why and how people pick and choose which Bible verses to believe in. Dinner is at 5:30 followed by discussion. We welcome any and all perspectives and look forward to a great dialogue.
On November 2 at 4:00, there will be an informational meeting at UCM for the Spring Break mission trip to Guatemala. UCM alum and site leader Ellen will be there to talk about all your questions and concerns, including funding. Come even if you have serious reservations about the trip.
The fall retreat will be the weekend of November 14-16 to the western Michigan sand dunes. Cost is $50. Talk to Julie if money is a problem. It should be a great time; you don’t want to miss it!
October 30 is Project Pumpkin from 3:30-7. We’ll be face-painting little kids and giving out candy. If you’re interested, see Allison.
Allison and Nate will also be singing at First United Methodist Church next Sunday, October 27. The church is at the intersection of Hinman and Davis; worship starts at 10:30.
UCM alums Ben and Jocelyn’s will be getting married at the same church on Saturday, November 1. A group of us will be meeting at UCM at 2:30 to walk over to the ceremony. Please join us.
Nate’s a cappella group, Asterik, is holding a show that same weekend. Themes range from politics to spookiness in general and Sarah Palin.
We ask that you keep University Chaplain Tim Stevens in your prayers. He recently underwent surgery for serious headaches.

This Week at UCM (Week of October 13th)

Here’s what this coming week at UCM looks like:
Tomorrow is our weekly “Why?” discussion group that addresses all your big questions about religion and God. Bring your friends; people of all taiths and viewpoints are welcome. Dinner is at 5:30 followed by discussion.
On Saturday we will be helping unload pumpkins at Trinity United Methodist Church in Wilmette. We can use all the help we can get. Meet at UCM at 12:30 to head over there, or, ir you’re going to the football game, email Amanda or Collin. Amanda can meet you after the game at Will-Call to take you over to Trinity. The Fall retreat is coming up the weekend of November 14-16. We’ll be traveling to southern Michigan for a sand-filled weekend by Lake Michigan. The cost is $50; talk to Julie if paying is problematic for you.
A new group, PeerCorps, is starting up on campus. Students can interview to become counselors for peers in a kind of alternative to CAPS. Talk to Phil for more information.
Weekly worship is Sunday from 5:30-7. Let Collin and Amanda know if you’re interested in providing music for the worship service.

UCM Announcements

Here’s what’s going on this week at UCM:
Tomorrow is the last music Bible study of the year! Bring a song that’s especially meaningful to you. Dinner and discussion start at 6.
Tuesday at 7:00 at UCM will be Matt and Sarah’s baby shower. There will be cake and games. For gifts, the Fowlers are registered at Target and Babies R’ Us.
Julie is hosting an end of the year party at her house, 2140 Sherman,this Friday from 5-7.
Caroline and Kyle are looking for volunteers to guard the rock June 5 and paint it June 6 for Connor’s birthday. Contact Caroline if you’re interested.
UCM will be having its last meal and worship of the school year this coming Sunday at 5:30.
